I was charged with the responsibility of teaching pack animal transportation to Special Forces officers, used preventive medicine to control animal to human disease transmission, and treated guard and attack dogs at missile sites around Washington DC. As a candidate for Director-at-Large, I offer you compassion for animals, knowledge of their care and keeping which has been polished by many years of veterinary small animal practice.

Practiced Small Animal Medicine and surgery in Bethesda, MD. Owner of a successful small animal hospital in Omaha, NE for many years, and retired ten years ago. I have the time to devote to CFA and the desire to be involved.

During my career, I served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ancom, Inc. Ancom introduced audio-visual client education and home continuing education to the veterinary profession. These products were marketed internationally through Ancom's own sales force. I acted as a veterinary consultant for this company, and lectured on practice management, client education, and problem-oriented medical records both nationally and internationally. I was also Chairman of the Board of Directors for Ornamental Fish Industries of Castro Valley, CA. and was actively involved in research, development, and marketing of their products. I served as Chairman of the Board for Cartel, Inc. which reproduced and marketed audio-visual products for various corporations in the United States.

As Chairman of the Board of Ancom, OFI, and Cartel, I learned to make tough and necessary decisions. I have an open mind, am a good listener, and find that most people in my life have something to teach me.

I started my show activities as a breeder and exhibitor of Maltese dogs. After ten years my professional and business responsibilities became so pressing that I had to give up this interest. During this period I served on the Board of Directors, and was Vice President of the American Maltese Association. I was also the author of a monthly syndicated breed column for Popular Dogs magazine.
Nancy and I have been breeding and showing Ocicats for twelve years. Our campaigns have produced many Regional Winners and six National wins. I belong to three CFA clubs. I have served as President of Midlands Cat Fanciers, and am current President of Creative Cats. Club memberships have allowed me to work actively in most areas of show production. I am also a member of the Ocicat Breed Council.

My activities as an exhibitor have allowed me to travel throughout the country, and talk to members of many clubs in most CFA regions. Financial stability and financial integrity are frequently topics of conversation. I offer you the courage to confront your problems head-on. I am accustomed to making difficult decisions, and will pledge the integrity to stand up for what I believe is right, and apply rules fairly in an honest forthright approach.

Operating a successful veterinary hospital is a people business as well as a pet business. I enjoy working with people, and will confront issues that we as breeders and exhibitors presently face in a straight-forward manner. I do not believe a veterinarian has ever been seated on CFA's board. Perhaps, now is the time to change that precedent.
CFA has given a great deal to me, and now it is time to give something in return. I offer you business, veterinary, and people skills. I am committed to CFA's goals, and will work tirelessly for you to see that they are accomplished. I am open to your thoughts, questions, and ideas. Please consider my candidacy when you are voting for your Directors-at-Large.
Sincerely,
Roger Brown, DVM
